Following this, another 45-minute drive leads to the starting point of the hike, located at an elevation of 4,640 meters (15,225 feet).

Arriving at the first viewpoint, located at approximately 4,900 meters (16,000 feet), offers an incredible perspective of Rainbow Mountain Peru. However, it’s often crowded with visitors eager for photos. To avoid long waits, many choose to continue climbing to higher vantage points.

The final ascent to the peak at 5,030 meters (16,500 feet) is steep, with gradients reaching 35 degrees. Frequent breaks become necessary as the air grows thinner. Despite the challenge, the effort is rewarded by unparalleled views. The summit offers sweeping vistas of the surrounding Andes and, on clear days, the Ausangate Glacier.

 Rainbow Mountain Peru owes its vibrant hues to its unique mineral composition. Layers of sediment, deposited over millions of years, contain minerals that oxidize and create a stunning array of colors. Each shade tells a geological story:
